Eight Tips to Minimize Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet are all signs of aging that many women try to delay or minimize as long as possible. Unfortunately, since wrinkles are a natural part of aging, it is impossible to prevent them altogether. Thankfully, you can make them less noticeable with a bit of prep work, proper makeup application, and the right products. Below are my eight best tips on how to do this.

1. Plump up With a Moisturizer

The skin becomes drier as we age, and wrinkles become more prominent. Therefore, it is essential to use a moisturizer for your skin. Consequently, you will want to choose a moisturizer that lists hyaluronic acid as one of its ingredients. Hydrating the skin with hyaluronic acid creates a plumper appearance by drawing water into the skin. After cleansing your face, apply a moisturizer before applying makeup. Not only will wrinkles be far less noticeable when your skin is well-hydrated, but your makeup will also go on much more smoothly.

2. Use the Help of Retinoids

Retinoids encourage the skin to produce more collagen, which can reduce wrinkles. In addition to over-the-counter products made with retinol, you can also get prescription-strength retinoids from your doctor. They both work well for wrinkles. Be sure to read the directions carefully and be patient. This process can take weeks to months to show results. In addition, be sure to wear sunscreen, as retinoids can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Daily use of sunscreen can also help prevent future wrinkles.

3. Limit Usage of Anti-Aging Creams

One more tip: do not go overboard. Limit your anti-aging products to one or two products at a time. The excessive use of these products can irritate the skin, increasing signs of aging. You might want to start with one product and add another after a month. Look for ingredients like vitamin C, peptides, and growth factors in your products.

4. Start Your Makeup With a Silicone Primer

After moisturizing, apply a primer. The key to softening wrinkles is using a primer as a makeup base. For example, consider a product that contains silicone, which can fill in uneven skin texture and fine lines. I highly recommend Paula’s Choice Smoothing Primer Serum. Applying primer with your hands or a brush is the best method. A sponge will merely absorb the product. Rub a small amount of primer, approximately the size of a pea, on the center of your forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Allow the primer to set for a few minutes before applying foundation and other makeup.

5. Use a Light and Moisture-Rich Foundation

If you use a heavy matte foundation, you can make your skin look older. Instead, opt for a hydrating, sheer foundation. Want more coverage to cover dark spots or blemishes? Apply a little concealer before applying your foundation. Heavy foundation coverage will draw attention to fine lines and wrinkles. Opt for a light or medium coverage foundation instead. Using a damp sponge will help soften the foundation, giving it a more sheer and flawless appearance. If you want to forgo foundation, use lightweight makeup such as CC cream, BB cream, or tinted moisturizers. They provide adequate coverage without emphasizing fine lines or wrinkles.

6. Lighten Up on the Powder

Set your makeup with a light dusting of loose powder. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Loose Setting Powder is an excellent product. In addition, this powder contains silk and hydrolyzed collagen, which blur pores and wrinkles for a lightweight, airbrushed look. However, to avoid highlighting fine lines on your cheeks, switch from a powder blush to a cream blush.

7. Highlight Your Eyes

Highlighting your eyes is a great way to draw attention away from wrinkles and fine lines. Use a matte eyeshadow instead of a shimmer. Shimmery eye shadows accentuate fine lines and draw attention to crepey skin. Neutral shades work best. Apply lighter shades to your lids and neutral shades to your creases. Avoid liquid eyeliners because they tend to settle into wrinkles. You can substitute a soft eyeliner pencil and apply it only to the top lash line.

8. Keep Your Lips Smudge-Proof

Final tip: keep the color on your lips. A lip stain, lip gloss, and lip pencil are good choices. First, apply a lip stain very lightly with your fingertip. Do not apply too much. Next, apply a small amount of sheer gloss to the center of your lips. By doing so, your color will stay put, and the spotlight will remain on you. In the alternative, you can choose a lip liner that is closest in color to your lipstick. It will prevent the lipstick from feathering and filling the fine lines around your mouth. Once you line your lips, apply color between the lines. That will help your lipstick last longer. Next, finish off with your favorite lipstick, but avoid mattes. The lack of moisturizers in them makes wrinkles more noticeable.
